Amphetamine Type of Stimulants Abuse

The category of drugs used shows an increase in all types of drugs with Amphetamine-Type Stimulants (ATS) still remaining the most misused drugs in 2019. The trend of ATS type drug addiction is very worrying because the majority of ATS users are among the younger generation compared to the total drug abusers. The trend of ATS drug addiction has a detrimental effect on individuals especially causing them to have mental disorders while increasing criminal behaviours among them if the problem is not curbed. ATS especially methamphetamine (ice) abusers can develop drug induced psychosis presenting signs and symptoms of physical aggression, verbal abuse, auditory hallucinations, paranoia and their level of functioning slowly deteriorates. For example, they can’t go to work or can’t concentrate on their studies. These clients need treatment and rehabilitation with psychotropic medications and undergo psychosocial rehabilitation.

 Kategori dadah yang digunakan menunjukkan peningkatan dalam semua jenis dadah dengan Amfetamine-Type Stimulants (ATS) masih kekal sebagai dadah yang paling banyak disalahgunakan pada tahun 2019. Trend penagihan dadah jenis ATS sangat membimbangkan kerana majoriti pengguna ATS adalah generasi yang lebih muda berbanding dengan jumlah penyalahgunaan dadah. Kecenderungan penagihan dadah ATS memberi kesan buruk kepada individu terutamanya menyebabkan mereka mengalami gangguan mental di samping meningkatkan tingkah laku jenayah antaranya, sekiranya masalah itu tidak dapat dibendung. ATS terutamanya penyalahgunaan metamfetamin (ais) lama kelamaan akan mengakibatkan psikosis dengan menunjukkan tanda-tanda dan gejala ganas, mengeluarkan kata-kata kotor, halusinasi pendengaran, syak wasangka dan tahap fungsinya merosot. Contohnya, mereka tidak dapat bekerja atau tidak dapat menumpukan perhatian pada pelajaran mereka. Pengguna dadah jenis ini memerlukan rawatan dan pemulihan dengan ubat psikotropik dan menjalani pemulihan psikososial.
